Retirement – Joshua
Retirement the Crown of life- Gen. 28:15 “Behold I am sith…for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee…” This is a statement for those who have spent their life well in the service of God and mankind, that their ministry in retirement may well be the crown of a life of Christian service. Retirement may be a time for bonding relationship with family and grandchildren. You been busy in your profession during your younger days. You have missed lots of love and sharing. In retirement you can catch up and make it a time of renewal from love and sharing. Retirement is an opportunity to provide magnificent occasion for cementing and bonding with your family and grandchildre. Retirement is also an opportunity to Serve more! ” You are old, advance in years and there remains very much land yet to possess…” Joshua 13:1 God then proceeded to give the 85 year old Joshua the difficult task of bringing the Israelite to the promised land which lasted for another 25 years. Many retirees when confronted with situations where they can do something for the good of people, will “I have done my part, now its time for me to rest and let someone else do it.” Many parts of the Holy Scripture reflects that God has a contninuing objective and plan for our lives. Many retirees find such rich opportunities of ministry service to the community that they were not able to do when they active and busy in their profession. God has invested many gift and skill to you during your active service in your profession. These gifts and skills could be actively and meaningfully use to respond to massive and creative opportunities through volunteer service in the community, church, hospitals, organizations and local government units. Acts 20:18-24; 33-35 ” Let us underlined and make a big bold exclamation point on the phrase: ” That I may finish my race with joy”. Let this be our goal. Let this be our wish. Let this be our prayer in our retirement.
