John 15:9-19

The great interest in this passage lies in the fact that we can compile a list of the things for which we are chosen and to which we are called.

  1. We are chosen for joy.

However, hard the Christian way is, it is, both in the traveling and in the goal, the way of joy.

There is always joy in doing the right thing. The Christian is the man of joy. A gloomy Christian is a contradiction in terms.

  1. We are chosen for love.

We are sent forth into the world to love one another. We are sent into the world to live in such a

way that he show what is meant by loving his fellow men. Jesus gave a commandment which He had himself fulfilled.

  1. Jesus called us to be his friends.

He tells his disciples that he calls them not a slave but his friends. Jesus said: “I have something

greater for you; you are no longer slaves; you are my friends.”  Jesus called us his friends and the friends of God. That is a tremendous offer. It means that no longer do we have to gaze longingly at God from afar. Jesus did the amazing thing, he gave us this intimacy with God, so that God is no longer a distant stranger, but our intimate friend.

  1. He called us to be His partner.

He said in fact, “You are no longer my slaves but my partners. He said “I have told you everything, I

have told what I am trying to do and why I am trying to do it. I have told everything which God told me.” He Has done this things because he considers us his partner in the work.

  1. Jesus chose us to be his ambassadors.

He sends us out to the world to represent him in the world. He did not chose us to be retired from

the world. Jesus chose us first to come into him,, and then to go out to the world. And that must be the daily pattern and rhythm of our lives.

  1. Jesus chose us to be privileged members of the family of God.

He chose us so that whatever we ask in His name the Father will give us. The NT lays down certain

laws about prayer.

  1. Prayer must be the prayer of faith- (James5:15)
  2. Prayer must be in the name of Jesus- W e cannot pray for things which we know that Jesus would disapprove.
  3. Prayer must say, “thy will be done.” God knows better that us, so let us accept his will.
  4. Prayer must never be selfish.  He said “if two agreed in asking anything in His name, then it would be granted. (Mtt. 18:19).
